Market For Single-Family Homes Improving

Last month the number of Massachusetts single family homes sold rose 11.8 percent to 2,153 from 1,926 in January 2009, marking the fourth consecutive month of double-digit increases, according to The Warren Group. Additionally, the median price of single-family home sold last month rose nearly 10 percent to $285,000 from $265,000 in January 2009, the second consecutive month seeing close to a 10 percent increase. Part of this past month’s good numbers, however, could be because of the temporary tax credit for home buyers and because of mortgage rates hitting near historic lows.
