The Classic Group in Lexington, Mass., unites architects, builders, and developers in creating luxury homes in traditional styles, whether they are new houses or whole-house renovations. In 1986, it had a staff of eight. Today, it employs more than 30 professionals who collaborate on projects from 3,000-square-feet to 25,000-square-feet, and budgets from $1 million to more than $30 million. The teams share a love of old buildings, traditional architecture, and a desire to exceed expectations of clients. The goal is to create classic buildings that are historically inspired, and of the highest quality. In 2006, The Classic Group won four Luxury Living Awards in four categories: golds for whole house remodel and specialty space; and silvers for dining room and kitchen.

MEET THE LEADERS
The owners of The Classic Group, which was founded in 1986, are Kyle Barnard and Philip Bates. Barnard, president and CFO, leads day-to-day operations, directing the firm’s financial and legal aspects. He also guides long-term and strategic planning. A graduate of Colby College in Maine, he joined The Classic Group in 1991.
Philip Bates – an experienced carpenter, site supervisor, and project manager – oversees fieldwork. He has a passion for restoring older homes, using the finest materials and craftsmanship. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont and joined the company in 1991. Bates is second vice-president on the board of the Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.
